Dr. Archie Franklin McAfee

Funeral services for Dr. Archie Franklin McAfee, age 90 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Lysaker, Dr. Andy Lowery and Rev. Dwain A. "Joe" Eason will officiate.

Dr. McAfee was born April 6, 1934, in Dublin, Georgia. He was the son of the late James Bryant McAfee and Mary Frances Stewart. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae McAfee. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Wrightsville High School in 1952. He was a 1960 graduate of Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro where he received his BS in Music Education. He earned his Master of Science in Education in 1964. He earned his Education Specialist (6-year degree) in 1966. He graduated from Covington Theological Seminary in 1999 with a Doctor of Ministry in Music. He was an ordained Deacon, ordained Minister, and music teacher for 34 years teaching band, choir, general music, and guitar in Savannah, GA, Hinesville, GA, and at 3 school systems in Laurens County, GA. He was a member of Georgia Music Educators Association; a member of the MacFie Clan of America where he served as Vice President for 6 years; and a member of the MacDuffie Clan of America.

He won 1st place at the State High School Literary Meet in Vocal Music. He was a UGA Bach Choir Soloist in 1953; Georgia Teachers College Lead Vocalist in several musicals from 1954-1956, and Savannah Symphony Soloist from 1967-1969. Dr. McAfee passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness.

Dr. McAfee is survived by his 2 sons, Archie Bryant McAfee of Sugarcreek Township, OH, and James Ross Fincher of East Dublin; 2 daughters, Mary Leanna McAfee of East Dublin, and Susan Elizabeth McAfee Brooks of East Dublin; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andy Webb, Philip Smith, Charles Fincher, Matthew Magluilo, Christopher McAfee, and Jonathan Haygood.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Wiggins and Jeremy Holbrook.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 17, 2025, at the funeral home.
