Dr. Constance Hislop Obituary

We, her loving family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Constance (Connie) Hislop (nee Baker) on Friday, August 1st, 2025, in McLaren Port Huron Hospital, after a long and valiant battle with heart failure.

Dr. Hislop was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on January 14, 1938, where she enjoyed a very active upbringing as the third of four daughters born to Harry and Rose Baker. As well as being a cheerleader and singing in the Glee Club at her beloved Beck Collegiate, she was involved in many other school and community activities. Connie later studied at Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in London, graduating as a registered nurse.

Because Connie wanted to travel and see the world, she joined the Canadian Army as a Lieutenant. During her military career, she was posted to Kingston, Camps Borden and Petawawa in Ontario, and Fort Churchill in Manitoba. She especially wanted to live and work with the military in Germany and applied for a posting there. The requested posting came through quite quickly. However, Captain David "Moore" Cameron Hislop MD (a Scot) interfered with these plans by proposing marriage, promising that if she would marry him, he would take her to Germany on their honeymoon.

They were married in All Saints Anglican Church in London, Ontario, on April 8, 1961. Because they were both army officers, and Moore was the Medical Officer for the Royal Canadian Regiment, they had a military wedding complete with eight crossed swords as they left the church. A reception dinner followed at the RCR officers' mess at Wolseley Barracks in London. Moore fulfilled his promise of travel to Germany, as well as to several other European countries on their extended honeymoon.

Connie later returned to school, completing her Master's of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, and later completing a PhD. at The University of Michigan. She passed further examinations to become a fully licensed clinical psychologist and served the community through her work at Blue Water Child Guidance Clinic, St. Clair County Community Mental Health, and as a member of staff at what was then Port Huron Hospital.

Dr. Hislop is survived by her husband and best friend, Dr. David "Moore" Hislop, MD, and two much loved daughters, Laura Hislop King and Monica Hislop Arce. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Judith Russell, brother-in-law Douglas Long, son-in-law Julian King, grandchildren David Arce, Maya King, Cameron King, and Griffin King, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a beloved daughter, Dr. Julia Hislop, and by sisters Donna Baker Robinson, Sylvia Baker Long, and Gwen Baker.

Connie had always stated that she was "never bored a day in her life". She enjoyed golf, water aerobics, gardening, book club, traveling to far off places, and ladies' weekends with her "gang of eight", who had all been best friends since their early school days. Connie most especially cherished the gatherings of family and friends at her Canadian cottage on Lake Cecebe.

Services will be provided through Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060. My sincere condolences Dr Hislop. I worked with you on OB for many years. You always spoke so fondly of your wife and daughters. Your wife earned her Masters along side my sister Kim. We talked about that too being such a small world. Cathy Rocca

Our sympathies Moore, Laura, Monica and families on the death of Connie. While we haven´t connected since Grampa´s death, we think back fondly to those many years of shared family events in Bayfield after Gramma and Grampa married. We often visited your Port Huron home and enjoyed your mom´s amazing hospitality there too. I´m sure your treasured memories will bring you some peace in this difficult time.
