We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sherie Ann Hislop, on the evening of Thursday, May 15th. She left this life peacefully, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Sherie was born on October 15th, 1956, in Big Spring, Texas to Sharon and Kenneth Augason. Kenneth was killed in a plane crash only a few months later, after which Sherie and her mother moved to Utah. Her mother remarried Robert Lefavor, and Sherie spent her childhood in Taylorsville, Utah with her siblings David, Barbara, Kathie, Bob and John.
Later, Sherie attended Brigham Young University where she met Steve Hislop in her student ward. Their love grew quickly, and they were sealed for time and all eternity on August 23, 1978 in the Salt Lake City temple. Shortly after, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where they had five of their six children and made many lifelong friends. She and her family moved back to Utah in 1992 where they had their last child and set down permanent roots.
Sherie was an incredible mother and grandma. She was selfless and devoted, taking the time to go to golf tournaments, basketball games, soccer matches, baseball games, dance recitals, and anything else her kids or grandkids were participating in. She loved gathering the family for Sunday dinners which often ended in game nights and lots of laughter. She made each child and grandchild feel loved and important right up to the very end.
Sherie enjoyed teaching piano lessons to neighborhood kids for many years. She loved her students fiercely and enjoyed watching them grow up. Her other hobbies included playing pickleball with friends, making greeting cards, buying and gifting baby clothes, reading and traveling.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held various church callings in her ward throughout the years. She was a great example of the Savior's love and was constantly found serving others in any capacity. Often, she was the first person to show up with a dinner, an invitation, a shoulder to cry on, or a listening ear when someone needed it most. She found joy in serving others even when her burdens were also great.
Sherie is survived by her husband, Steve; her children, Melissa (Zac), Brandt (Joanne), Justin, Clayton, Derek, and Brenna (Jack); and her grandchildren, Ava, Landon, Natalie, Caden, Everley, Jocelyn, and Holland. She is also survived by her siblings John, Bob, Kathie, Barbara, and David.
She was welcomed on the other side by her mother, Sharon; her father, Bob; and her biological father, Kenneth.
She will be greatly missed, but the love she felt for others will never diminish.
Sherie's funeral services will be held Wednesday May 21st, 11:00am, at 4220 Foothill Drive Provo. A memorial will take place prior to the service at 10:00am.
We would like to express our thanks to everyone who took the time to visit, text, call, drop off meals, flowers, or notes and who loved Sherie. We would also like to thank the many nurses and doctors who helped in her care, especially Dr. Manni. We are so grateful for you.
