Dr. David Byron Dedmon, 69, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on December 4, 2024. Born November 18, 1955 in Spartanburg, he was the son of Catherine Glenn Dedmon and Verge Alton Dedmon. He was a member of Nazareth Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by an aunt Dr. Virginia Glenn Crane and cousin, Amelia Winslow Crane, of Oshkosh, WI, and numerous other relatives in South Carolina.
Dr. Dedmon graduated from Spartanburg High School, Wofford College, and The Medical University of South Carolina. While attending Spartanburg High School, he was a member of the Beta Club, played cello in the orchestra, and graduated with honors. At Wofford College, he graduated Summa Cum Laude Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, he entered The Medical University of South Carolina and received his doctoral degree as Doctor of Dental Medicine.
For 35 years, Dr. Dedmon served the Spartanburg community and was very much cherished and celebrated by his patients, along with his devoted and loving decades-long employees, Patricia Lacey and Kathey Pittman. While holding his practice, he served on the Carolina Piedmont Foundation Board as President of the Medical University of South Carolina Dental Alumni Association, where he was also an adjunct clinical professor in the MUSC School of Dental Medicine. Later in his career, he was instrumental in USC Upstate’s pre-dental internship program and, furthermore, established the David B. Dedmon, DMD endowment scholarship in the health sciences.
Outside of academia, he further devoted himself to community work through the Spartanburg Evening Lions Club, where he held district and state offices. Dr. Dedmon was also a master gardener and loved to travel.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 3:00pm in J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Rev. Gary Hensley. Burial will be private.
