Funeral services were held for Rev. David Wenzel Peterson, age 94, at Rocky Spring Baptist Church, 423 Rocky Springs Road, Lisbon, LA, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Chris Stephens, officiated. Interment wias at Centuries Memorial Cemetery, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA. Visitation was at the church from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.
Rev. Peterson was born October 12, 1929, in Willmar, MN, to Dorthea and Reuben Peterson. He married Verna Dean Cranford August 26, 1950. They had one daughter, Donna Cuchens Pullen.
David joined the Army in 1947 and served four years in the 745th Air Force Band. He surrendered to preach the Gospel in March of 1954. David pastored Bossier City Missionary Baptist Church (now is Stockwell Baptist Church), Central Park Baptist Church in Bossier City, Laurel Heights Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church both of Shreveport, LA, Pleasure Point Baptist Church Lake Claiborne of Homer for twelve years, as well as churches in IL, MO, FL, and TX.
He earned educational degrees BA, MA, PhD from Baptist Christian College and University. He served on the faculty in those schools, also. He was a former member of Homer Masonic Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Suzzanne Pullen; son-in-law, Ronnie Pullen; grandson, Bruin Cuchens; and three sisters, Marian, Marjorie, and Betty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Verna Dean Cranford Peterson; four grandsons and their families, Shawn Cuchens and children, Junior, Katylynn, and Stetson, David and wife Jennifer and sons, Ethen and Kenlee, Terry and wife Mindy and children, Gunner, Melodee and Macee, Daren Peterson and son Aiden; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and students.
In lieu of flowers honoring David, his family suggests memorials be made to Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 249, Lisbon, LA, 71048, or charity of donor’s choice.
