Kenneth J. Backman, D.M.D., F.A.C.D., 78, prominent Boston periodontist, passed away peacefully July 13th, after a long illness, in Port Charlotte, FL.

Dr. Backman was a graduate of Syracuse University and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and held a post-doctoral degree from Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, past president of the Boston Metropolitan District Dental Society, the Greater Boston Dental Society, and the Massachusetts Periodontal Society, and lectured widely throughout the United States.

He is survived by his sons Adam and wife Michele of New York City, Nathan and his wife Adrianna of Vermont, former wives Sandra of Charleston, SC and Stacey of Marblehead, MA; step-children Zachary and Maiah Perella; his brother Douglas Backman and his wife Kimberly of St. Petersburg, Fla. and sister Dawn Backman of Worcester, MA. A private funeral is being held along with a celebration of his life in the Fall. Donations in his memory may be made to: Suncoast Humane Society, Englewood FL 34224.

He helped me a whole lot going thru my divorce & having dental problems! Bought a new boyfriend who fixed dental equipment! Kenny gave him a job & got a free cleaning!!! And my sister dated Douglas is brother
