Norman Louis Davidson Sr., 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Charles on Friday February 7, 2025 after a long illness. Norman was born on October 13, 1939, in Plaquemine LA to Allain and Ruth Rose Davidson.

Norman was a graduate of Plaquemine High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1961. There, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Epsilon Delta honorary fraternities and Sigma Nu social fraternity. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 1965 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honorary fraternity and the Undergraduate Medical and Surgical Societies.

Dr. Davidson interned at Philadelphia General Hospital immediately following his undergraduate medical education. He then entered the US Navy Medical Corps, serving one year at the US Naval support hospital in Danang, Vietnam and another year at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in FL where he met and married the former Ann Elaine Barnes of Columbia MO, his wife of 56 years. Following his two years of military service, Dr. Davidson returned to Louisiana for medical residency at Charity Hospital of Louisiana in New Orleans and a year of general medical practice at Savoy Hospital in Mamou, LA before taking two additional years of medical training at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver.

In 1972 Dr. Davidson joined the Lake Charles Medical and Surgical Clinic where he served Lake Charles until his retirement in 2005. He was elected president of the Medical Staff and Board of Trustees at St. Patrick's Hospital, president of the Lake Charles Medical and Surgical Clinic, president of Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, and was a Board Member of the Louisiana Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Davidson was a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

But none of the above fully captures Norman Davidson, the man. Except for medical training and his time serving in the US Navy Medical Corp, Norman lived his entire life in southern Louisiana. He loved the natural beauty and abundant wildlife of his home state, he loved its unique culture and cuisine, and he loved the people. He spent as much time in nature as he could, hunting and fishing or hiking and camping with friends and family. But he was also a voracious reader, a music lover, and an engaging conversationalist. His patients, friends and family knew him to be soft-spoken, kind, caring, patient, and thoughtful. And he had an infectious laugh! In retirement he became an avid gardener and delighted in his grandchildren.

Norman is survived by his wife Elaine, his son Norman Davidson Jr (Angie) of Lake Charles, his daughter Ruth Hey (Paul) of Windermere FL, his daughter Ann Sellers (Rick) of Remus MI and nine grandchildren: Abby, Katy and Brady Davidson; Grace, Kathryn, Elizabeth and David Hey; and Garrick and Mack Sellers. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Marie Davidson of Lake Charles, Kathy Scheidt (Bob) of Chicago, IL, and Marjorie Marberry (Jim) of Columbia MO, as well as six nieces and nephews and their 16 offspring. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Allain Davidson, Jr.

The family especially wants to express appreciation for the dedicated and loyal care provided by Mary Mouton and her caregivers and to Harbor Hospice.

Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church Saturday February 22, 2025 at 11:00am. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10:00am till time of services.
