Dr. Peggyann M. Zaenger, 74, died at home unexpectedly on Oct. 5, 2025, following a brief illness. As a Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy, she spent most of her adult life in Jacksonville, FL, as both a professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville and as an instructor, medical advisor, Family Practice Residency Program team member, and drug researcher at Ascension St. Vincent's Medical Center - Riverside.
She earned her undergraduate degree in pharmacy at the University of Toledo in 1973 and her doctorate at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1975. Throughout her lengthy career, she garnered local accolades and awards, as well as national recognition within her field.
Away from work, Peggyann was known for her humor and keen insights, her passion for books, travel and all things British, her love of cooking and gardening, and her neighborhood and community involvement. Never married, she devoted herself to her family, her large circle of friends and colleagues, and her church and many charitable causes. She was fiercely independent, both personally and politically.
Peggyann grew up in Toledo, OH, and attended St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School and Central Catholic High School. She is survived by her brother, Tom Zaenger and his wife Susie (Snyder) of Indian Trail, NC, and by her niece Allie Zaenger and her husband Jeff McMahon of Fort Wayne, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach with Father Andy Blaszkowski, a longtime friend, as Celebrant. Following mass, her ashes will be interred in the church columbarium next to those of her parents, Dwayne and Dolly (Perna) Zaenger of Toledo.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity and cherish your family and friends. Peggyann would appreciate that.
