Drew William Bergman, 63, of Collegeville, PA; formerly of North Wales, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after he bravely fought a long battle with brain cancer (GBM).
Drew was the loving husband of Colette (Lapinski) Bergman for 11 years. He was born in West Reading, PA to Frederick Bergman and the late Doris (Miller) Bergman.
Drew graduated from North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA, class of 1978. He later graduated from Penn State University in University Park, PA, class of 1984, with a Bachelors of Science in Finance, where he was especially fond of his time as a Lion Ambassador.
Drew worked as a landscaper for The Rhoades Garden in North Wales, PA and then in the tile factory for the former American Olean Tile Company in Lansdale, PA, which convinced him a college degree was the way to go and he headed to Penn State. Post-graduation, he worked as an internal auditor for Toys "R" Us headquarters in North Jersey, traveling around the country, after which he came home to North Wales and worked as the general manager for the former AK Shearer hardware store and lumberyard.
Drew then followed his passion for cars and opened Bergman Brothers Auto Sales in Lansdale, PA, later working as the used car manager for Penske Chevrolet in King of Prussia, PA and as a salesman for West German Auto Sales in Ambler, PA. He spent most of his career at EST Group, a Division of Curtiss Wright, in Hatfield, PA retiring as the Director of Sales & Marketing after a tenure of over 20 years there.
Drew's life was defined by his deep love for Colette, his enthusiasm for cars, and his unwavering devotion to Penn State football. He and Colette shared countless memories in State College, PA, tailgating at every home football game. State College held a special place in their hearts-not only as the home of their beloved Penn State but as the place where they were married, beginning their life together. It was a place that symbolized both their shared passions and their enduring love for one another.
But Drew's heart extended far beyond his passions-his love for family and friends was profound. He treasured the moments spent with loved ones, creating lasting memories, especially during cherished trips to the Outer Banks with Colette, where the two found peace and happiness by the ocean.
Beyond his love for football, Drew was an avid reader, finding joy in the simple pleasures of tending to his yard, tackling house projects, and immersing himself in music. His days were filled with quiet pursuits, yet his presence was anything but. He was a great storyteller and his stories always seemed to contain a lesson.
Drew possessed a remarkable sense of humor and carried himself with a grace that marked him as a true gentleman. His loyalty, ethics, and unshakable integrity reflected a deep-rooted sense of right and wrong. To know Drew was to have a friend for life-someone who always placed your well-being above his own and stood by you with unwavering support. He was, in every sense, a man of character and heart, beloved by all who had the privilege of calling him a friend.
In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by his four siblings, James Bergman & wife, Sheila of Woodland Hills, CA, and their daughters Skyler and Willa; Maria G. Pinto & husband, Eugene of Telford, PA, and their children Ben, Luke and Grace; Jan Seligman & husband, Marc of Land-O-Lakes, FL, and her children, Michael, Kevin and Jade; and Sam Bergman of Pottstown, PA, and his children, Lilli (another current Penn Stater), Rain and Meadow.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
