Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flanigan Funeral Home & Crematory on Nov. 10, 2025.
Drew Leon Mattingly was born on June 8, 1972, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Michael Stephen Mattingly and Linda Sue (Prater)Mattingly. Drew passed from this earth on November 6, 2025. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.
Drew was born in Louisville, Kentucky, as both of his parents were natives of the state. He was proud to be of the Catholic faith. Drew had an adventurous childhood, moving to different states when his father, "Mickey", was transferred as part of his position with the Texaco Oil and Gas Company. Drew loved to tell stories of his childhood and teen years growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Houston, Texas; and Moorestown, New Jersey.
Drew moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1996 and later met his wife, Lindsay, there in 2002. Drew and Lindsay married in 2004 and settled in
Buford, Georgia. They have two beautiful sons, Zachary Alton (born 2008) and Collin William (born 2010).
While in Atlanta, Drew began working in the furniture and art installation industry. He worked for two art installation companies before starting his own business, Drew Design Services, in 2015. Drew ran his installation company with the help of his trusted team and experienced great success and many warm professional relationships for ten years. He had a passion for creativity and art and enjoyed working in the Atlanta design industry. He excelled at his craft and was well respected in the Atlanta art installation field, working with many top interior designers in the area. Drew loved helping designers and clients see their visions come to life. His successful art installation business was a dream come true and one of his greatest accomplishments.
Drew had a wonderful sense of humor and many passions in life. He loved the outdoors and nature, where he felt closest to God and most at peace. He greatly enjoyed hiking and camping and loved riding dirt bikes with one of his best friends and his youngest son, Collin. In his younger years, he took many solo camping trips and shared countless good times camping with friends in the North Georgia mountains. His favorite hiking and camping experiences included Yosemite National Park with Lindsay; Sargent Mountain in Maine with Lindsay; Zion National Park with his father-in-law; a section of the Appalachian Trail with his brother-in-law, Phil; a backyard campout with then four-year-old Collin; and an overnight dirt bike excursion in North Georgia with his best buddy and Collin.
Drew had an enormous love for music and a deep knowledge of artists past and present. He passed that passion on to his oldest son, Zachary. Drew put drumsticks in Zachary's hands as soon as he could sit up and a guitar in his hands by age three. As a result, Zachary developed a deep love for music that he shared with his father. They often played guitar and sang together.
Drew and Lindsay shared 23 years together and navigated many challenges and triumphs of life together. Their love was special, and their love for their children immeasurable. Drew loved his family immensely and was deeply loved in return. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Drew is survived by his wife, Lindsay Tatum Mattingly; his sons, Zachary Alton Mattingly and Collin William Mattingly; his mother, Linda Sue (Prater) Mattingly; his sister, Tiffany Mattingly DuPree (Phil); niece Emma McCrary (Tanner); nephew Brennen DuPree (Taylor); father- and mother-in-law Charles and Gloria Tatum; sister-in-law Holly Tatum Sheats (Reed); nephews Luke and Tate Sheats; many other extended family members; and his childhood friends and "brothers" in New Jersey.
