It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Durand Jay, who left us on May 19, 2025. He attended Earlington High School and then went on to honor his country by enlisting in the Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated his working years to various organizations, including the Walmart Distribution Center and Washington Inventory Services, and as a truck driver for The Salvation Army.

Durand was well-known for his warm spirit, infectious laughter, and deep love for his family and friends. He lived life simply and found joy in the little things; a full belly, a cozy home, and his favorite Westerns were all that he needed to feel content. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and united with Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He let it be known that he was on good terms with the Lord and that he was ready to go home. He often recited his favorite scripture, The 23rd Psalm, reflecting his trust in God during his illness.

He is preceded in death by his father and his cherished grandparents, Corene and Leroy Johnson and Virginia Sanders, as well as his beloved brother, Clifford Jay, all of whom will be waiting for him in heaven.

Durand is survived by his children: Douglas (Jill) White, Latisha White, Kenneth Morris of Madisonville, KY, and Tia (Eddie) Roach of Clarksville, TN; his mother, Vera Johnson; and his treasured grandchildren—Queen, Tyah, Me’Lania, Tevin, and Kinsley—as well as great-grandchildren King, Empress, and Prince. He also leaves behind his brothers Marshall Jay of Louisville, Stanley Jay of Earlington, Dana (Dana) Johnson of Madisonville, Tony (Sherdina) Foster of Columbus, OH, and Steven Johnson of Jackson, FL. His sisters include Katrina (Kerry) Scott and Sherri Foster of Madisonville, Yolanda Robinson of Spartanburg, SC, Sandra (Mark) McFarland of Owensboro, KY, and Monica Johnson of Earlington. Additionally, Durand is survived by uncles Lewis (Cleola) Johnson of Columbus, GA, Ernest Jay, Jr. of Goose Creek, SC; aunts Darlene (Nate) Jones of Louisville and Ludella Grinstead of Madisonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished him dearly. Durand was a remarkable man whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
