Dwight Antonio Watson

Dwight Antonio Watson, 43, of Hartford, beloved son of Vandite and Marva and loving father to Kenya and Milan, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on January 15, 1982, son of Vandite Newmarch Watson and Marva Delcieta Thomas, he was raised in Hartford, attended school at Faith Seventh Day Adventist School, New Testament Baptist Church School, John C. Clark, Jr. Elementary School, Thomas J. Quirk Middle School, and Weaver High School where he graduated with the Class of 2000.
After high school, Dwight took culinary classes and worked at several restaurants in the Hartford area including Ted's Montana Grill in Evergreen Walk in South Windsor and the Maple Tree Café in Simsbury. An entrepreneur at heart, Dwight also owned and operated a variety store on Albany Avenue in Hartford where he enjoyed interacting with his customers. Most recently, he worked at the Horace Bushnell Congregate Homes on Vine Street in Hartford where he enjoyed helping the elderly residents during his regular "third shift" hours.
A lifelong Hartford resident, Dwight loved giving back to the community where he lived. In the Summer months he enjoyed hosting cookouts especially for the youth in his neighborhood and mentoring young children, especially young boys. A true provider, Dwight was always generous with those around him, especially his two daughters.
In his spare time, Dwight enjoyed playing basketball, listening to his favorite music, especially rap, reggae, and R&B, and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Marva Delcieta Thomas of Bloomfield; his father, Vandite Newmarch Watson of Hartford; two daughters, Kenya Ye'Wande Watson of Hartford and Milan Chanel Watson of Glastonbury; two stepchildren, Tylena Shaffer of Hartford and Melvin Malone of Hartford; the mothers of his children, Dana Shaffer of Hartford and Krystle Carey of Glastonbury; a sister, Quiana Watson of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Seth Watson of Hartford and Jahsimeon Mayo of Hartford; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
