E. Dean Lammy, 84, of Parsons, died at 12:16 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2024 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
He was born Earl Dean Lammy on March 28, 1940, to Earl E. and Pearl R. (Hoyt) Lammy at Wellington. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1958 and from Arkansas City Junior College in 1960. He also attended Friends University in Wichita.
Dean and Naomi Elmore were married April 4, 1964 in Winfield. They observed their 60th anniversary this year.
In his early adult life he worked in sales at the Montgomery Ward Store and then for the Ford Motor Co., both in Wellington.
In 1964 he started working for the Winfield Daily Courier as an advertising sales person and circulation manager. In October of 1970 he worked as advertising sales person for the Miami, OK daily newspaper and in February of 1971 he began employment with the Parsons Sun in the advertising department.
From 1980 to 1983 he lived in Chanute after purchasing the Bill Johnson Furniture Store. In 1983 he returned to Parsons and became the advertising sales executive for The Good News paper. He worked for a time in advertising sales for KKOW Radio and then returned to the Good News paper, retiring in 2009.
Dean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parsons, He enjoyed being a salesman and was known for his honesty and trust worthiness. He enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales and buying and selling used furniture and antiques and other items. He especially liked antique glass items and collected a large number of them.
In addition to his wife, Naomi, he is survived by a sister, Sue Tracy and her husband Mark, of Argonia; two nephews and two nieces, Rick Stewart and his wife Keri of Chanute, Randy Tracy and his wife Arlene of Argonia, Sherry McCullough of Independence and Amy Roudybush and her husband Mike of Derby.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian, who died of leukemia on April 19, 1989 while a fifth grade student; his parents and a sister, Linda Stewart.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, December 30 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Travis Ball officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
