Earl Marshall Babbitt "E.M.", age 81, husband of Betty Babbitt, was reunited with his Lord and lost loved ones on June 3, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1944 in Whiteland, Indiana, the eldest son of the late Evelyn Dillingham and Earl Babbitt. He was a member of New Cut Road Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his brothers Richard Dillingham and David Dillingham.
Papaw was a force of nature in the lives of everyone he touched. He served his country in Vietnam and worked tirelessly as a Conductor on the railroad for 32 years. He was passionate about his hobbies. He loved the Cardinals and never missed a game. He scoured the country collecting antiques. His gardening produced tomatoes his neighbors and friends looked forward to every July. His poker skills won him many tournaments. But his heart beat for his family. He was happiest surrounded by his loved ones on the Thornapple River in Michigan with a Coke in one hand and a fishing pole in the other. He took time to teach each of his children and grandchildren how to fish and enjoyed their success more than his own. Most of all, he showed his love by cooking for his family. Whether it was Thanksgiving dinner or a backyard fish fry, he enjoyed feeding his loved ones and his family gathering together.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of sixty years, Betty Babbitt and his two cherished daughters, Teresa Lee (David) and Kristie Walker. He will be dearly missed by each of his four grandsons, Marshall Lee (Kayla), Dalton Lee, Noah Walker and Tyler Walker, his great grandchildren Aria and Emmitt Lee, his two sisters, Judy Dillingham and Jane Gary (Jeff), two brothers, Danny Dillingham and Dale Dillingham (Debbie); and his stepsister, Patti Reynolds.
His family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, June 6, from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Drive, Louisville, KY. A funeral service begins the same day at 1:30 p.m. followed by his burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
