Eddie Jim Overman ("Jim"), born June 6, 1962, in Snyder, Texas, died peacefully on the morning of May 30, 2025, after a long and painful battle with cancer.
Jim's life was anything but polished. It was gritty, vivid, sometimes heartbreaking-and, in the end, surprisingly peaceful. He lived with both intensity and openness, facing struggles that left their mark and carrying losses that ran deep. And yet, he kept showing up-with humor, with heart, and with a kind of unguarded honesty that disarmed people. In many ways, he lived in the moment-for better and for worse-and managed to keep his heart open to life.
From an early age, Jim showed a remarkable knack for hands-on work. By age six, he was already driving a tractor and helping his dad with ranching and farming. He picked things up quickly and carried that natural ability throughout his life. A true jack-of-all-trades, Jim taught himself how to do just about anything-from mechanics to carpentry to welding and reading blueprints. He took great pride in his work.
He was also a gifted storyteller, often recounting wild and funny memories with a kind of matter-of-fact honesty that put others at ease. He didn't pretend to be something he wasn't; he simply showed up as he was.
In his final years, a quiet transformation took root. Living in a nursing home, Jim found a kind of peace many wouldn't have expected. Despite chronic pain, the rigors of participating in cancer treatment trials, and the steady decline of his body, he met each day with humor, grace, and a surprising lightness. He connected with those around him and made the best of what he had, becoming-perhaps unexpectedly-an inspiration to others.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marcia Faye Stone and Seth Berle Overman, and by all four of his grandparents. He is survived by his sisters, Kellie Overman Randall (& John) and Nichole Hart (& Scott); his Aunt Bea and Uncle Skip; cousin Brenna Roberson; and numerous other Overman cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family, whom he cared deeply for.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
