Edgar Shelby Long

Edgar Shelby Long, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on June 7, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, Edgar spent his life deeply rooted in the community that raised him and which he loved so dearly. From an early age, Edgar's passion for sports was evident. He played both baseball and football at Highlands High School, and his talent on the baseball field earned him a scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso. The friendships he built with teammates and coaches during those years remained strong throughout his life. Edgar later built a career in the food and beverage industry, working in restaurants and enterprises across the country. No matter where his work took him, San Antonio always called him home. He left his mark on many establishments, including Frontier Enterprises and Crabby Jack's, where his work ethic and personality left lasting impressions. Known for his easy smile and big heart, Edgar had a way of connecting with everyone he met. In his hometown, there was rarely a place he could go without running into a familiar face. To many, he was a teammate, coworker, or friend; to all, he was someone you could count on. Outside of work, Edgar found joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling. He loved visiting many places, but Las Vegas held a special spot in his heart. More than anything, though, Edgar was proud of the roles that mattered most-being a devoted father and grandfather. His greatest joy came from his son and his grandson, for whom he would do anything. Edgar is survived by his nieces, Linda Baney Kathy Bernstein and Donna Belzung. His Son Cifton Long, his grandson, Emreigh Long. His legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter will live on in the lives he touched. Tuesday, August 26 at Mission Park south viewing from 1130 to 12. Service at noon, and afterwards everyone is getting together at Northeast bingo parlor which is off 35 in Wiedner from 1 to 330.
