Edith Carpenter Cross passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 5, 2025, at her home in Lewes, DE at the age of 86. Edith was born in Lewes, DE on December 21, 1938, to the late William "Skip" and Catherine Dorman Carpenter. She is survived by two siblings, Thomas Carpenter (Glenda) and Bonnie Sheppard (Jesse).
Edith is survived by three children, Timothy Shawn Cross, Kimberly Ann McMinnis and Adrienne Cross Caycedo (John). She was predeceased by her eldest son Thomas Kevin Cross.
Her loving grandchildren include Joshua Cross, Logan Cross, Timothy Cross, Thomas Cross, William Cross, Heather Tana, Marshall McMinnis, Tyler McMinnis, Jacob Essex, Lauren Essex and Morgan Essex. She also enjoyed 15 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Edith graduated from Lewes High School in 1956. She then graduated from Beebe Nursing School in 1959. She furthered her Nursing career over the years by obtaining her RN and multiple certifications. She enjoyed her life-long nursing career in several hospitals in DE, Washington, DC, and VA before ultimately coming back to Beebe for her last job before she retired.
Edith had deep faith and found great joy in helping others. She was active within the church her whole life; involved in choir, playing hand bells, bible studies, volunteering with Sunday school, and even making candles for the services at our church in Alexandria. She was a Grief Share counselor and a Nurse Chaplain for many years.
She enjoyed multiple crafts including scrapbooking, greeting card making, ceramics, and most recently diamond art. She both attended and taught card making classes. She was an avid reader, loved building puzzles, and doing word searches. She enjoyed water volleyball, exercise classes, Friday happy hours and all the other activities the Moorings community had to offer. Her favorite pastimes were going to the beach and spending time with her loyal dog, Precious.
She was loved by all, and her lifelong lessons will remain imprinted in all those she touched.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958. Edith was a very special lady for me. She was one of the women who provided a lifeline for me through the GriefShare program at Bethel when my husband passed and I didn´t know how to go on. She was also instrumental in me becoming a GriefShare leader. As a result, I was able to help her with her grief when her son passed. I will always remember her smile, compassion and caring. You made a difference for so many people, Edith.
Rest in peace.

"In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life you embraced them with your tender love;deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the HolySpirit forever and ever. Amen."
Edith was a joy & inspiration to me. I will miss her happy Can do spirit. She made valentine cards for card class which took her 2 days to do. So grateful for all she did for all.
