Edith Lynn "Edee" Harshbarger, age 85, of Chicago, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Lincolnwood.
Edee was born April 27, 1938, in Chicago, the only child of Allen and Jeanette Turen Rubell. She attended public schools in Chicago, graduating from Austin High School in 1956. She went on to get an undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in 1960, followed by a Master's in Social Work from Adelphi University in 1975.
Edee was married twice, first to Thad Harshbarger, with whom she had two sons, Alan and Daniel, and second to Allan Schnaiberg, whom she married in September, 1981.
Edee spent the majority of her life in Chicago working as a social worker, starting in Travelers Aid and ending her career in private practice. She truly enjoyed both her clients and her coworkers. Edee was an enthusiastic collector, a lover of antiques, and a passionate gardener. Above all, she relished her role as a grandmother, doting on her grandchildren.
Edee was preceded in death by her parents and by Allan Schnaiberg. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Alan Harshbarger of Chicago and Daniel and Sharon (Kucera) Harshbarger of Cranbury, NJ; her step-daughters and their husbands, Lynne Schnaiberg and Geoff Bolen of Seattle, WA, and Jill Schnaiberg and Brendon Sylvander of Seattle, WA; and her grandchildren, Sam, Alex, and Lucy Harshbarger of Cranbury, NJ.
Celebration of Life, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10 a.m., at the Evanston Friends Meeting, 1010 Greenleaf St., Evanston.
