Edith Lane Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Edith Eleanora (Anderson) Lane, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 11, 2025. Born on January 30, 1931, in Providence, Rhode Island, Edith dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her husband, Bob, and their four children. She and Bob shared a wonderful love story and a devoted marriage of 69 years, a bond that was her greatest joy and an enduring testament to partnership. Together they explored the world, traveling extensively and crisscrossing the United States in their RV, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Edith began her professional life as an educator, teaching in K-12 before dedicating herself to her family. Her lifelong commitment to children and community was evident through her extensive volunteer work with organizations such as the Girl Scouts and the PTA, as well as various other school-related groups. She was very active in many different churches throughout her life, most recently finding her church home at Church of the Palms. There, she served faithfully as a greeter, usher, shepherding deacon, and was highly active in the thriving church tutoring program.
Edith also loved music in all forms and passed that love down to her children and grandchildren. She sang in multiple choirs, most recently in the Sunnyside Village choir, and played handbells for many years. Edith could be heard singing or whistling showtunes or campfire songs almost every day of her earlier life.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, their children Kenneth (Kirsten Thomassen), Diane Pfaff (Steve), Philip (Maxine), and Margaret Green (Kevin), 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held Monday, November 17, at 1pm at Church of the Palms in Sarasota, FL, with a reception to follow.
A celebration of Edith's life will be held at a future date.
