Our hearts are heavy as we share that Michael "Mick" Owen Malloy passed away peacefully at his home in Venice, Florida, on November 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Flint, Michigan in 1943, Mick was the first child of Joseph Owen Malloy and Mary Frances Wheeler Malloy.
As a teenager, Mick's family moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where he attended St. Bernards Preparatory School in Cullman, Alabama, and Carrollton High School. He remained close throughout his life with many dear friends from the Carrollton Class of '61.
Mick then graduated from West Georgia College in 1965 and began his career in insurance. Starting as an agent with Safeco, he went on to open his own independent business, Malloy Insurance Agency, on Main Street in Tucker, Georgia.
During his years in Tucker, where many knew him as Mike, he devoted himself to his family, his church, and his community. He coached countless youth sports teams for his children, served as President of the Tucker Youth League, taught First Communion classes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and led as Parish Council President.
Mick also had a lifelong love for sports and adventure. He refereed GHSA football games on Friday nights around Atlanta, rode his Bultaco dirt bike with friends, and cheered faithfully for the Falcons and Braves. Many treasured memories were made at his beloved Lake Lanier home; boating, jet skiing, grilling out, and celebrating milestones with family and friends.
After retiring in 1998, Mick made Venice, Florida his permanent home and, for a time, lived in Ecuador. His love of learning and curiosity about the world never faded. He explored Asia, studied cultures and religions, traced his ancestry, and learned Spanish, all while seeking good conversation and new perspectives. In Florida, he found joy and peace in nature, often kayaking the quiet waters of Curry Creek, where he savored the solitude, wildlife, and rhythm of the tides that mirrored his lifelong sense of adventure and reflection.
Mick is survived by his Irish love and life partner, Josephine Madden; his children, Michael S. Malloy
(Kathryn) of Roswell, GA, and Kathy Malloy Pace (Andrew) of Gainesville, GA; and his siblings, John P. Malloy (Debbie) of Carrollton, GA; Judy Rushing (Michael) of Boulder, CO; Rebecca Malloy of Clearwater, FL; and Matt Malloy (Susie) of Traveler's Rest, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hunter Hollis (Katie) of Marietta, GA; Caitlin Hollis of Brooklyn, NY; Jack Hollis of Brooklyn, NY; and Kylie Chancey of Tampa, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends he cherished deeply.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
