Durham – Edith Mae Ottaway, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 2,2025 at her home. Born in Sampson County to the late Alvin Addison Moore and Lina Moore Rooks. Mrs. Ottaway is also predeceased by her brothers, James Moore, Lewis Moore, Frank (Pauline) Moore; sisters, Lilan Barnhill, Betty McPhail, and Geraldine McMahn. and special friend, Ronnie Pearson.
Mrs. Ottaway was an active member of the Edgewood Baptist Church and former member of Holloway and Three Rivers Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was a Deacon and taught Sunday School classes. She retired from American Tobacco Co after 15 years. Mrs. Ottaway loved to cook, bake, read, and travel.
Mrs. Ottaway is survived by her sons, Charles (Becky) Ottaway, Clarence Ottaway, Barry (Nancy) Ottaway; Bryan Ottaway; grandchildren, Nicole (Dennis) Tuck, Chuck (Melissa) Ottaway, Hope (JD) Maynard, Chasity (Daniel) Schmoyer; great grandchildren, Jonathan Tuck (Quinlynne), Abby Ottaway, Willow Ottaway, Alyssa Wilder, Levi Maynard, DJ Schmoyer, Violet Schmoyer, Austin Watson, Christian Watson; step-grandchildren, Allison Gill, Joshua (Micheal) Gill, Brandon Gill, Emily Gill, Raven Gill, and Macy Hendley
A funeral service will be held at 11 on Thursday, May 8th, at Edgewood Baptist Church, 1807 Infinity Rd, Durham. The family will receive friends at Edgewood Baptist Church one hour prior to service. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Garden, 3712 Cheek Rd, Durham.
