Edith Evans Rivers

Edith Evans Rivers was born in Lee County on August 28, 1933. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Benjamin Evans and Mrs. Reco Enoch Evans. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me. God watched over Edith, and she departed this life at home on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2023, after an illness.
Edith received her formal education in the Lee County schools. After high school, she was united in holy matrimony to Julius Leroy Rivers, and to this union, three children were born, Timothy, Marion Loretta, and Michelle.
At an early age, she joined Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. She became a faithful member and served in many capacities with the United Methodist Women of Faith and the Senior Choir for over 70 years. Also, she was a dedicated member of Faithful Workers Chapter #229/Order of Eastern Star Chapter of Independent Royal and Lady Knights for over 30 years.
Mrs. Edith lived most of her life in Darlington County where she worked at the Spaulding High School cafeteria in Lamar, SC, as the lead cook for several years. She extended her career at Sherman MFG in Darlington, SC, as the lead supervisor for over 30 years. After retirement, Edith worked at Hamrick's in Florence, SC, as a sales associate for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Rivers was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Julius Leroy Rivers; four brothers, Robert Evans, Benjamin Evans, Jr., Louie Evans, and James Evans; and one sister, Dorothy Evans Lynn.
Survivors left to cherish fond memories of Edith Rivers are her one son, Timothy Leroy Rivers of Lamar, SC; two daughters, Marion Loretta Cooper of Lamar, SC, and Michelle (Jonathan) Jackson of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Morris Rivers of Lamar, SC; four sisters-in-law, Eliza Jane Rivers and Barbara Lee Rivers, both of Lamar, SC and Nellie Evans and Barbara Evans, both of Darlington, SC; two grandchildren, Kanika (Jerette) Spann and Marcus Rivers; one great-grandson, Peyton Spann; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
