Edna M. Cox, 81 of Ashland passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 in OhioHealth Med Central Hospital.
She was born on November 25, 1942 in Marengo, Ohio the daughter of the late Karl and Mary (nee Park) Starkey.
Edna graduated from Frank B. Willis High School, Class of 1960. She furthered her education and earned her nursing degree from Grant Hospital, Class of 1963.
She married the love of her life, Harold R. Cox on October 7, 1966. The couple would make Ashland, Ohio their home in 1967.
Edna retired after more than 45 years from Samaritan Hospital in 2014 as a registered nurse.
She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where she served for many years on the trustees board. Along with the church, she also served on the fair board and planning commission, Ashland Coin and Stamp Club, and the Credit Union. Edna was in charge of the Harness Racing Program as the "Speed Superintendent" for many years.
Edna is survived by one daughter, Christal Bacon of Ashland; one son, Scott (Leesa) Cox of Ashland; three grandchildren, Devynn (Sean) Delap, and Logan and Taylor Cox; and one sister, Ruth Summers of Sherman, Texas.
In addition to her parents, Edna is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Harold Cox who passed away on September 14, 1999; and one sister, Helen Starkey.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Snyder presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 663 East Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
