Edward Ronald Austin, affectionately known as "Ronnie," was born on April 28, 1948, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to the late Miles Belford Austin and Vivian Lynette Austin. On Sunday, October 5, 2025, he peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 77.
Edward was the middle child of three children he and his siblings Allen Belford Austin (Leenora); Vivan Brown (Paul) grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School, home of the Golden Bulls. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force. His service took him across the world, including to Vietnam and Thailand, where he bravely fought for our nation's freedom.
After seven years of honorable service in the Air Force, Edward took a brief pause before continuing his military career with the United States Army. He served faithfully as an Ammunition Technician for 20 years. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked in civil service, retiring a second time before devoting himself fully to the things he loved most.
Edward enjoyed traveling, reading, and his lifelong fascination with trains and planes. These hobbies gave him great joy and peace throughout his life. He especially cherished spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends across the United States.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Miles Belford Austin and Vivian Lynette Austin; his infant son, Donald Austin; his sibling, Sylvia Austin; and his grandson, David Charles Davis.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Rhonda Lynette Davis, and son-in-law, Gary Wayne Davis; four beloved grandchildren: James Leron Moore Jr. (Joye), Devonte D. Davis, Brodasa Imani Davis, and Tony Myles Davis; and four precious great-grandchildren: Tahji Moore, Tamia Moore, Taleahya Moore, and James Leron Moore III ("J3"). He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, extended family, and numerous friends who will forever treasure his memory.
His life was a testament of service, love, and legacy. Though his earthly journey has ended, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel. The Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM.
