Ed was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania on May 6,1945 to the late Margaret Miller Berendt and William M. Berendt, Sr. He worked at multiple steel mills in the area and finished his career at the Ellwood City Forge. He was the 1959 Ellwood City Soapbox Derby winner and went on to compete in Akron, Ohio. His derby car is now on display at the Historical Society in Ellwood City. Ed loved to golf and played in various golf leagues throughout his life. Countless fish were caught with a huge smile on his face with many fishing trips to Erie, Pymatuning, Neshannock and the Connoquenessing Creek. He was a devoted Steelers season ticket holder, loved West Virginia University football, attending many games and a obligatory, but proud follower of University of Georgia football where his granddaughter currently attends college. He is a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ellwood City and the Ellwood City Saxon Club.
Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith A Berendt, sister Catherine Chappelle, daughter/son-in-law Denise and Dan Cavanaugh Jr., son/daughter-in-law Lori and Robert Berendt and daughter/son-in-law Jennifer and Travis Agnew, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild with one on the way.
He is preceded in death by his brother William M. Berendt, Jr.
There will be a memorial service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Wayne Ave. in Ellwood City on Sunday, April 28 at 2 pm.

I grew up with Ed as our parents were close friends. We attended events at the Saxon club and later we were classmates at Lincoln High. In 2016 both Ed and Judy were very helpful when my sister passed. My condolences to Judy and her family.
