Edward Eugene "Gene" Boykin, 80, widower of Gloria Jean Dickerson Boykin, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Born in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Paskell Woodward Boykin and Bernice Lowery Boykin.
Mr. Boykin was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, the Elks Lodge #855, and was past President of the Gamecock Strutters Club. He was a retired insurance agent for over 40 years.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Edward Boykin (Sandra Beck) of Bishopville and Christopher Edward Boykin (Randy Harper) of Charleston; one daughter, Lori Anne Coley of Sumter; one brother, Avery Woodward Boykin of Sumter; one sister, Debbie Anderson (Terry) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Serena Boykin Buss (Michael), Brandi Elizabeth Coley, Brandon Alan Coley, and Samantha Mae Boykin (Barbara); five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Buss, Amelia Buss, Ryan Buss, Maddox Coley, Riley Boykin; his companion, Marian Willette, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Linda Juanita Whitaker and Darlene Boykin Timmons; a sister-in-law, Gayle Boykin; a daughter-in-law, Renee W. Boykin.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Aaron Reed officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 554 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
