Edward Carter Obituary

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Edward attended Jesuit High School and graduated from Tulane University, where he received an MD and a BS in Biology. After completing his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology in New Orleans, he practiced medicine for more than 30 years in the Atlanta area, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. He retired in 2010. A physics research hobbyist, man cave audiophile, and weekend race car competitor, he most deeply loved and cherished the time he spent with his wife and soulmate, Kathy, his daughter, Heather, and granddaughter, Ava.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Edward F. Carter Jr. and Ruth Chastain Carter of Tampa, and survived by his loving wife, Kathy Adams-Carter; his daughter, Heather Thornburg (Randy); granddaughter, Ava Thornburg; sisters, Brency Grabowski (Bill) and Betty Gazaway; brother, Ren Carter (David); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family would like to thank the members of #TeamFastEddie for their tireless care and support throughout the years, especially the Phoenix of Dunwoody staff, who created a "home away from home," and the private caregivers, Anna, Hannah, Ike, James, Alex, and Kemi, who provided the love, support, and close watch needed to keep Fast Eddie "up and going!"
Celebration of Life services for Edward will be held on Friday, October 21, at 11 a.m., with Chaplain Jimmy Jones of Trinity Hospice Care of Georgia officiating. The family will welcome friends prior from 10 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Peachtree Corners.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.

I pretty much grew up next door to Edward from late elementary school until we both graduated from Jesuit High in 1966. Edward was a wonderful friend and we had a lot of adventures together, some of the wildest instigated by Edward. Amazingly smart and strong, whatever happened you always knew that Edward would figure out a solution and jump in and get you out of trouble if need be. He was one of the very best guys I have ever known. I am very sad to hear of his passing. Brency, Betty, Ren, Kathy, Heather, and Ava, I am so sorry for your loss.
