Edward Albert Charron

Edward Albert Charron passed away at home with family on November 20, 2023. Ed was born on August 21, 1932 in Washington, DC to Arthur Charron and Pauline Moore Charron. He attended University of Maryland in College Park and, prior to graduation in 1954, he met his wife, Joyce Bartlett Charron. Two years later, they were married at the chapel at the University of Maryland while Mr. Charron was working part time at the House Office Building on Capitol Hill and attending Georgetown Law School. The following year he started working full time as a claims adjuster at Hardware Mutual Insurance Company and transferred to American University Law School before Hardware Mutual transferred him again to Richmond, VA where he continued his law studies at University of Richmond. Ed was transferred a third time to Atlanta, GA where he finished law school at Emory University, graduating in 1961 and passing the Georgia Bar Exam.
Recruited by Atlantic Coastline Railroad, Ed moved his family to Jacksonville in 1963 to start his legal career handling legal matters for the railroad, including assisting in all of the acquisitions and mergers of what is now CSX. He held several positions in the Law Department before retiring in 1991.
Throughout his many years in Jacksonville, Mr. Charron was very active in the community, including serving as Chairman of the Budget Committee of United Way, President of the Jacksonville Civic Roundtable, Member of the Long Range Planning Committee for Jacksonville University, Secretary of the Board of Regents of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida, Senior Warden and Board Member of the Vestry of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Chairman of the Board of St. Andrew's Episcopal Day School, President of the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library, Co-founder of the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jacksonville Public Library and a Board Member of the Coastline Credit Union for over 40 years.
Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years and their four children, Michael (Chiaki), Kenneth (Rosine), Jennifer Maxwell (Bill) and Matthew (Kelly) and four grandchildren, Jacqueline Maxwell, William Maxwell, Kai Charron and Ezekiel Charron.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 7801 Lone Star Road in Jacksonville on December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, there will be a graveside private burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Hardage-Giddins Oaklawn Chapel and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jacksonville Public Library or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
