Edward Chavez Jr. of League City, TX was born on November 10, 1946, and passed away on May 7, 2024, in Webster, Texas at the age of 77.
Edward was born in Galveston, TX to Edward and Esperanza Chavez on November 10, 1946.
Edward graduated from Ball High School, class of 1965 and attended Stephen F. Austin University graduating with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne, on January 25, 1969. In the years that followed, they had 3 kids, Nicole, Trey, and Monica. He worked most of his career in finance and retired at the age of 65. This allowed him and Yvonne plenty of time to spend with their growing family.
Edward loved his grandkids. He had grandchildren in Houston, Austin, and Los Angeles. He loved flying to California to visit family and take trips around the state to discover new places. Keeping up with all the activities of his grandkids kept him healthy and youthful.
Everyone who knew Edward knew his true passion in life was tennis. Walking past Menard Park in Galveston as a kid, he discovered the tennis courts and from then on, he was hooked. Despite never playing or having family that played he quickly became a regular at the park. He played tennis in high school and college and passed his love for the sport on to his own family (whether they liked it or not, ha!). One of his greatest joys was attending the U.S Open with his wife Yvonne and being able to see some of his favorite players.
Edward loved his sweets! Ice cream was his first choice. If he wasn't having a couple of bowls a night something was off. Over the years, Edward and Yvonne had several dogs they adored. He also loved cars. His family lost count of all the vehicles he had over the years, and it became a running joke! Taking care of his yard was a priority for him and jumping in the pool after cutting grass was his favorite. Soul music and mafia movies were some of his other joys. His loud laugh, gentle smile and crazy antics will be deeply missed by his family.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Esperanza Chavez and his brothers Richard and Bobby Chavez.
Survived by his dedicated wife of 55 years, Yvonne, their loving children, Nicole, Trey, and Monica as well as his son-in-law's, Evan, and Randy. He cherished his grandchildren, Helena, Cora, Ella, and Camila.
To honor Edward's life, his family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on May 11 from 2-5pm. The celebration will be held at 6215 Maddingly Lane, League City, Texas 77573.
