Edward Leroy "Ed" Ellars, age 81, of Washington CH, went home to be the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2025 at his home.
He was born on April 27, 1944 in Jamestown, Ohio to the late Bryon, Sr. and Betty Lou (Sickles) Ellars. He was a graduate of Washington High School. Ed worked for many years at Pennington Bakery; and retired from Johnson Controls in Greenfield after twenty-four years of service. He was a faithful member and served as a Deacon at Bible Baptist Church in Washington CH. He enjoyed fishing on the waters of Lake Erie, mowing his lawn, helping his neighbors, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris "Dee" Ellars; siblings, Elinor Louise Ellars, and Bryon Ellars, Jr., stepson, Roger Zimmerman; stepdaughter, Paula Sue Zimmerman; niece, Jalayne Denise Ellars; and nephew, Daren Ray Ellars.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Ruth E. (Montgomery) Ellars, whom he married on December 27, 2005; his children, Kim (Dan) Rutherford, and Edward (Gail) Ellars; step-children, Rick (Marsha) Zimmerman, Rusty Zimmerman, Brian (Missy) Taylor, Keith (Vanessa) Penwell, and Melissa (Kevin) Mullins; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Temple with Pastor Trent Spangler and Andrew Johnson officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Bible Baptist Church, 4361 SR 41 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160 or to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
