Edward Emmrich January 27, 1944 – March 16, 2025

Edward "Ed" Emmrich, 81, passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2025.

Born in Gloversville, NY, on January 27, 1944, to Helen and William Emmrich, Ed lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an enduring spirit.

A devoted husband to Donna Emmrich, his beloved wife of 49 years, Ed took immense pride in the family they built together. He was an exceptional father to his three cherished daughters: Lory Smitka (Kevin) of Saratoga, NY; Erin Emmrich (Tim Lynett) of Amsterdam, NY; and Aimee Emmrich (Sebastien Simpson) of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind two adored grandchildren, Haley and Jakob Smitka, as well as his dear brother, Bob Emmrich (Sandra) of Atlanta, GA.

Ed’s life was one of passion and purpose. He was a proud graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a dedicated employee at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, where he worked for over 30 years. Outside of work, he pursued many hobbies and talents with passion, including playing guitar in bands such as "The Daiquiris" and "The Mark Three Trio." Ed’s love story with Donna began during one of his guitar performances with the band, where his music and good looks captured her heart.

Known for his athleticism, Ed excelled as a dedicated tennis and handball player, achieving the honor of being the tennis champion for the City of Amsterdam.

Ed’s Christian faith was central to his life, providing strength and guidance through every chapter. He attended services weekly and read the Bible daily.

Always ready for an adventure, Ed often traveled to Florida and Las Vegas and found joy in cruising—his final journey taking him to Cuba. Through these travels, he created countless unforgettable memories, reflecting his vibrant spirit and passion for embracing new experiences.

He was also deeply committed to his community, volunteering his time with organizations like the GE Quarter Century Club and The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. His kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand were a hallmark of his character.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 30 years ago, Ed faced his challenges with remarkable resilience, never allowing the diagnosis to overshadow his zest for life. He lived every moment to the fullest—bringing laughter, joy, and inspiration to everyone he met.

During his final years at Holiday by Atria, a senior living community, Ed cultivated meaningful friendships with his peers, leaving behind a legacy of positivity and unwavering determination.

Whether playing cards, dancing, attending concerts, exploring new restaurants, or enjoying long drives, Ed’s enthusiasm for life remained boundless.

Ed’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and joyful memories. As per his wishes, there will be no services. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to make a donation to The Salvation Army or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s.

Ed will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, yet his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched.
