Edward C Gangarosa, age 94, of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on the evening of 10/8/2025 in the company of family members.
Born on 03/22/1931 in Rochester, NY, Edward was the beloved son of Carlo and Maria (Manzella) Gangarosa, loving husband of Ellen (Barter) Gangarosa and the proud father of Lisa, Edward II and Carl. He will be remembered for successfully running Jack Ryan's, his own bar and grill across from Kodak Park for 40 years with a smile. He loved to discuss all things about finance/stocks. He enjoyed good food, the Yankees and Bills, and Saratoga Race Track. He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Church for many years until he could no longer drive. He celebrated many holidays with extended family including Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with his siblings and their families, and Thanksgiving and Easter with Ellen's family first in Gloversville, NY and subsequently in Central Falls, RI. He loved spending time with his wife, children and their spouses and 7 grandchildren Rachel, Cristina, Rene, Nolan, Carter, Cecilia and Samantha and attended as many of their activities as he was able to.
Edward graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester in 1949. In 1960 he purchased Jack Ryan's Bar and Grill on Lake Avenue in Rochester and owned and operated it for 40 years. In 1963 he married the love of his life, Ellen Barter, who passed away in 2006. He never remarried.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Lisa, her husband, Jim Harrison, and their children, Rachel Harrison (Sophie Bauers) and Cristina Harrison; son, Edward II and his wife, Tammy (Warner), and their children, Rene (PJ Mustipher), Carter, and Nolan; son, Carl and his wife Suzanne (Inzana) and their children, Cecilia and Samantha; brother-in-Law Russell Barter and his wife Mary. Russ stayed in touch right to the end. Russ was the younger brother he never had. Also survived by many nieces and nephews/great nieces and nephews and cousins. His nieces Donna Marrocco Gaiter and Mary Jo Lanceri Smith also stayed in close contact to the end. Special thanks to cousin-in-law Mary Catherine Lanigan and Pat Arieno for being longtime friends and visiting often.
A Memorial and Interment will be held on November 22 at 2 pm at All Souls Chapel in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. All who knew and loved Edward are welcome to attend. Celebration of Life to follow and details will be shared at Memorial Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (bbrfoundation.org) in Edward's memory.

Yesterday

Ed was a fine man who took a great interest in his family. I remember seeing him at his sons basketball games when they played for Sacred Heart Elementary School. I bumped into his son Carl a few weeks ago and he updated me on what was happening in the family. Rest in peace Ed, and say hi to your wonderful wife.
