SOUTHBURY, CT
"Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother"
Edward Gilbode, 80, of Southbury, entered the gates of Heaven surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Chomack) Gilbode.
Edward was born in Waterbury, CT on June 8, 1945, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Lakevitch) Gilbode. He was a 1963 graduate of Croft High School and earned an associate's degree from Post College. Before his retirement, Edward worked as a repairman for S.N.E.T. and A.T. & T. He was a member of the Wood Barn at Heritage Village. He enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and woodworking. Most of all, Edward cherished spending time with his family, especially during their summer vacations in Maine, or any time at all with any of his grandsons.
Besides his wife, Cynthia of 58 years, Edward leaves his daughters, Jodie Roden and her husband, Joseph of Southbury, CT, Allyson Winzer and her husband, Joseph of Orange, CT and five grandchildren, Matthew Gilbode, Caleb Roden, James Roden, Jack Winzer and Cooper Winzer. He also leaves his sister, Barbara Bouchard of Burlington, CT, sisters-in-law, Patricia Gilbode, Claudia DellAnno and her husband, John, Cheryl Albert and her husband, Ron, brother-in-law, John Chomack and his wife, Barbara, close friends, Christine and Don Farina and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Michael Gilbode.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial with Edward's cremains present will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church ~ Roman Catholic Parish of Middlebury and Southbury, 910 Main St. South, Southbury, CT. Please meet directly at the Church on Saturday. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, December 26, 2025, from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edward's memory may be made to:

We are saddened by the passing of Ed. I have known him as a fellow student at Croft, as a husband and father, and as a friend. He leaves a legacy of love and devotion. He and you are in our prayers.

Ed was my first introduction to the Barn . He welcomed me and gave me on a tour. I joined and we became good friends . I´m going to miss his big smile and warm welcome every time I saw him .
