Edward Goodroe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home - Standish Chapel on Dec. 22, 2025.
Edward E. "Ed" Goodroe, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at Medilodge of Sterling on December 21, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 20, 1942, on the family farm in Sterling, he was the son of the late Martin and Edna (Federspiel) Goodroe. Ed's life was a testament to his enduring spirit, his love for his family, and his commitment to his community.
Ed graduated from Standish Sterling High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future endeavors. On December 23, 1978, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Alexander, at the Sterling Methodist Church. Their union was blessed with love, laughter, and five children: Shelly (Joseph) Hahn, Curtis (Kellie) Goodroe, Russ (Kriss) Goodroe, Tammy (Jeff) Eilf, and Tommy Goodroe. Ed was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a cherished great-great-grandson. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Margorie Goodroe, and a special lady friend, Patti Stagray. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen, and nine siblings.
Ed's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He began his career at Forward Corporation and later retired from Northern Tube Manufacturing after many years of service. His commitment to his colleagues and the industry was evident in his active membership in the UAW. Ed's passion for community service led him to serve on the Sterling Village Council, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department, and the Deep River Township Board. His creative spirit shone through in his ability to design homes, and he proudly built nine houses for family and friends.
Beyond his professional and community service accomplishments, Ed was known for his love of sports and recreation. He played pool for Cliff's Bar's League winning several "King of the Hill" tournaments and enjoyed playing horseshoes. His leadership extended to the baseball diamond, where he coached the Sterling Hawks for several years, sharing his love of the game and his sportsmanship with young athletes.
Ed was a man of many talents and interests, but it was his personal qualities that truly defined him. He was handy, always able to fix or build anything that his family and friends needed. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had a unique ability to bring laughter and joy to any gathering. Above all, Ed was loving-a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
A Memorial service will be held in April 2026 date will be announced later. Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be at Sterling Cemetery.
