Edward Wayne Hawk age 90 and longtime resident of Bristol Lake in Dowling Michigan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on August 29,2025.
Wayne was born on June 2, 1935 in Bristol Tennessee to Joshua Edward Hawk and Margaret (Richardson) Hawk.
He married Judith Ann Burdick on August 1, 1953. They were married for 62 years until her death in 2014. Wayne and Judy lived on Green Street in Hastings for nine years before moving to Bristol Lake, Dowling.
He is survived by his sister Lora Rassman of Crittenden, Kentucky, his daughter Debra Taylor of Plainwell, son Dana (Connie) Hawk of Delton. His grandchildren Zachary Taylor, Colten Taylor, Kyle Hawk and Alison Hawk. Great grandchildren are Xander Taylor and Ryver Stephens.
Wayne went to school in lonia, Michigan. In his early years he drove truck for a creamery in Middleville, Michigan and worked as a milkman. Then he worked for Battle Creek Beer Company for many years. Wayne enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He had the gift of gab and made friends easily, that made him a great salesman! Later in life he managed the Grizzly Bar in Bedford and finally he worked for Arnies Glass in Battle Creek until retirement.
Wayne loved boating and occupied a slot at various marinas on Lake Michigan during the summers. He enjoyed many years of mushrooming and fishing with his family and friends. He liked traveling with his wife in their camper and they enjoyed being Florida Snowbirds for many years. In Florida, he enjoyed biking, going to Casinos and playing bingo. Wayne loved the warm weather and napping in the sunshine.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed old art books. He liked to whittle wood statues and carve stone figures. He created several amazing pieces. He was always working on some project or helping a neighbor with theirs.
He was an attentive grandfather. He attended many sporting events and provided many happy memories of vacations on the big boat on Lake Michigan. He supported his family every way he could and took part regularly in family events and activities.
He continued to meet people and make friends wherever he went. He was inspired by the writings of Dale Carnegie and was a witty, happy, and generous person. He was a member of the loyal order of Moose in Hastings, Michigan for 49 years although not currently active.
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, September 20th at the Delton Moose Lodge, 5420 Mooselodge Dr, Delton, MI near Wall Lake. Luncheon begins at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
