Edward J. Johnston Sr. was called to Heaven on January 23, 2026. He was 86.

He was born on August 3, 1939 to Edward and Jeanette Johnston in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Chicago where he met his beautiful wife, Mary. They were married on June 17, 1961.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Jeanette Johnston; his wife: Mary; his daughter: Marie Johnston; his granddaughters: Grace Tienhaara, and Brittany Johnston.

He is survived by his sisters: Rhee Johnston and Sally (Larry) Kandel; and his brother Chris Johnston. His children: Coreen (Kelly) Johnston-Newton, Edward (Sheila) Johnston Jr., Beth (Wade) Tienhaara; grandchildren: Eric Johnston, Jasmine Sweo, Laura Beth Johnston, Marybeth Tienhaara, Samantha Johnston, Lucas Johnston, Celeste Johnston, and 6 great-grandchildren.

His in-laws Mike Hain, George (Deb) Hain, John (Joan) Hain, Tony Hain, Bob (Elena) Hain, and Ann Fadziejewski.

Ed started in banking in 1958, which he stayed in until retirement age. In 1977, he thought "let's buy a resort and do that too." So they bought Pinehurst Resort in St. Germain.

Pop loved the outdoors, fishing, swimming, and playing with us kids and grandkids.

He loved reading, puzzle books, and especially woodworking. He was past president of Eagle River Rotary Club, trustee of Olson Memorial Library, chairman of the finance committee at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sayner, WI, and director at First National Bank of Eagle River.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday February 9th, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sayner, WI. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.

He will truly be missed not only by his family but all the people's lives he touched throughout the years.
