Edward John Klash
September 9. 1935 - October 1, 2025
In loving memory of Edward John Klash (formerly of
Corpus Christi, Texas), who passed away on October 1, 2025, at the age of 90. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Susie, his loving family, and heartfelt memories that will live on with his children and grandchildren.
Edward always had a soft heart for animals, children, and being a bit of a character. From his days as a child actor in school plays to becoming an avid sailor well into retirement, Edward was always drawn to adventure and fun.
He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and was remarkably tech-savvy for a 90-year-old great-grandpa. The challenge was often finding him the next gadget to explore.
Edward loved company and cherished visits from friends and family. In his younger years, he enjoyed painting and fishing, though he was never much of a hunter.
Known for his kindness, he often nursed injured animals back to health. Later, he and Susie raised exotic birds in their aviary. Throughout his life, Edward loved animals and cared for a wide variety of pets.
As a young adult, Edward volunteered for the Army, proud to serve his country. His intelligence was quickly recognized, and he was separated from his platoon for specialized training.
Excelling in his field, he became a trainer and coder, earning numerous awards and accolades for his work in aircraft recognition. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant and spent several years stationed at Bushey Hall and in Brighton, England, before returning to the United States.
After leaving the military, Edward met Kathryn "Susie" Klash, the love of his life. He often told his children he had searched the world to find her and knew right away there was no one else like her.
Together they raised a beautiful family in Wintersville, Ohio, before he retired from a long and successful career at Weirton Steel, where he served in a leadership role.
Edward enjoyed many years on the coast, sailing, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He served as a Commodore for the Bay Yacht Club, where he shared his knowledge of sailing with both children and adults.
Many friends, children, grandchildren, and extended family delighted in trips on the Corpus Christi Bay and Gulf with "Captain Ed."
He also had a passion for gardening, filling his backyard with vibrant plants and fruit trees.
In addition, he enjoyed woodworking and continued painting throughout his life, gifting his treasured works to family and friends. His favorite creation was a painting of St. Michael the Archangel bearing armor.
Despite all of Edward's talents and hobbies, he will be best remembered as a joker, a kidder, and, during his many hospital stays, the nurses' favorite patient.
Above all, Edward was determined to live a long life so that he would never be separated from his greatest love, Susie.
Edward was predeceased by his parents, Steven John Klash and Helen Tencet Klash; his brothers George, James, Joseph, and Fred; his son Vaughn Steven Klash; and his grandson David Rasor.
He leaves behind his wife, Kathryn Sue "Susie" Klash; his children, Edward John Klash II (Gloria), Brian Edward Klash (Erin), and Sue Ann Tencet-Lamkin (Kenneth). He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Christa Marie Yde (James), Melanie Corrine Rasor (Rob), Amanda Nicole Rasor, Edward John Klash III (Jade), and Alex Klash-Serrano (Frank), Austin Klash, as well as his great-grandchildren, Dax Garrison, Camila Serrano, Evelyn Klash, and Charlotte Klash
