Edward Lee Morey was born in Clearfield, Iowa to Dwight and Evelyn (McMath) Morey on February 16th, 1938. He passed away at Circle of Life Bentonville on November 26th, 2024 at the age or 86.
Ed graduated from Clearfield, IA high school in May, 1956. In September of that same year, he married Georgia Grey in Lenox, IA. Georgia was his first and only love. Then they moved to Des Moines where Ed attended Iowa Barber College. Upon graduation they moved back to Lenox where Ed started his trade.
After a few years, Ed and Georgia moved to Clarinda, IA where he went to work in the town barbershop where way too much fun was had along with some cutting hair. He decided on a career change and went to work in menswear. In 1976 he bought a clothing store in Harlan, IA and re-named it Morey's Clothing utilizing family as associates as well as some awesome high school students. He was a mentor to them all.
In 1984 he sold the store and joined Walmart. He ran stores as an assistant manager in Decorah, Iowa and Albert Lea in Minnesota. He was then a Walmart Store manager in Waseca, Minnesota and Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Ed then requested a transfer to the Home Office in
Bentonville where he was part of the team that readied, expanded, and relocated stores for their reopening by laying out new floor plans and ordering the necessary items. This allowed him to travel to the locations of the stores.
Ed's interests were playing sports through the younger years of his life. He played baseball, football and basketball all through high school and continued playing baseball for the Clarinda, IA town team, known as the Clarinda A's. his younger brother John played with him for a while on the A's. He was an avid sports fan specifically following the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. He rooted for both the Iowa State Cyclones, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and of course the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Every chance he got he was swinging sticks on a golf course. He played every weekend on a Bella Vista course, sometimes with family, sometimes with strangers that ended up as friends. He and Georgia had made friends in Clarinda, IA with five other couples whom they have remained close to for the last 60 years. Once a year they all got together and spent a weekend playing in the self-titled "Wooden Shoe Open." It was the event that they looked forward to each year.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents Dwight and Evelyn; his brother Jim; and his sister Myra. Edward is survived by his wife of 68 years Georgia (Grey) Morey; his son Michael Morey; daughter Lisa Morey; brother John Morey (Donna) of Shenandoah, IA; his grandson Nicholas Collins (Makayla) of Bella Vista; along with various nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Edward will be held on Wednesday December 4th at 11:00 AM at Nelson Berna in Rogers, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or through various acts of kindness in your community.
