It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Virginia Louise Morey, who peacefully left us on August 9, 2025, at the age of 102.
Virginia was born on July 20, 1923, in
Detroit, Michigan, to her loving parents, the late Alexander and Julia Bleckman. Virginia was a parishioner of St. Juliana's, St. Martin on the Lake, and Guardian Angels. She attended Denby High School where she graduated with honors. As a young adult, Virginia liked spending time with her two loving sisters, Marie and Rosemary, and brother Eddie. She was an excellent bowler and enjoyed time at the Belle Isle Beach with her best friend, Connie Motyl.
Virginia lived a long and full life marked by her love and deep devotion to her family and her Catholic faith. She was a beautiful soul, inside and out, and was a pillar of strength to all who knew her. A woman of simple joys, Virginia found delight in spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed baking her famous peanut butter cookies and a wondrous variety of holiday cookies during the Christmas season. The best cookies ever! Virginia loved rooting for her Detroit Tigers and playing pinochle and bingo. She was so good at cards everyone wanted to be her partner, and she was so lucky at bingo everyone at her assisted living community wanted to sit at her table.
Music brought her great happiness throughout her life--she loved to listen to melodies that stirred memories and lifted spirits. Virginia was known for her infectious smile, nurturing nature, compassionate heart, and keen sense of humor. She had an extraordinary gift of making everyone feel loved in her presence. Whether it was through a kind word or a warm embrace, she made those around her feel seen and cherished. She was as good as they come.
Virginia was the beloved wife of the late John (Johnny) Paul Morey. They met at Parke-Davis, where Virginia worked in the offices and John in manufacturing. Their first date was on a Bob-Lo boat cruise and they fell in love and married soon after. Together they built a large and loving family that became the center of her world. John passed away in 1978 and Virginia never stopped loving him. At the age of 55, after John's passing, Virginia showed great strength and fortitude by learning how to drive and gaining employment to support and raise the remaining children she had at home.
Virginia's spirit will continue to shine in the lives of her ten children, Michael (the late Marilyn) Morey, Cecilia Morey, Thomas (the late Denise) Morey, Theresa (Edward) Morey, Mary (the late Ralph) Morey, Timothy (Christine) Morey, Catherine (Donald) Aguanno, Stephen Morey, Anne (the late John) Morey-Franklin, and Jennifer (Dennis) Morey-Pollock; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her loving sister, Rosemary. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband and love of her life, John, and her dear siblings, Marie and Edward.
Virginia's legacy lives on in the lives of those she touched with her kindness and unwavering love. Her presence will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
