Edward W. Morgan (a/k/a Steady Eddie, Eduardo, Fast Eddie from Obetz) passed away at his home on Thursday, September 22nd. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Ed received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University, a Masters of Business Administration degree from Indiana University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University. After a year of teaching at Alabama State College, Ed accepted a job with the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, where he thrived for the next 34 years until his retirement. During his tenure at the Prosecutor's office, Ed met Tracy McSweeney, who headed the Victim Witness Assistance Unit in that office, and they married in 1982. Ed rose to the position of First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney heading the Criminal Division, and served as lead attorney for some of the most high-profile criminal prosecutions in Central Ohio.
Ed was an avid runner, participating in 5 Columbus Marathons. He was also very active in the Northwest Kiwanis Club, where he served as president for a year, and was instrumental in establishing the youth soccer program. Ed enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Clark Lake, Michigan, a place that he and the Morgan family considered a second home.
Ed Morgan was a diligent and committed prosecuting attorney with a laser focus; he handled a wide array of criminal cases, and made it his professional mission to see that justice was appropriately served. But once he left the office for the day, he was completely devoted to his family – Tracy, Sarah, Molly and Kevin were his first priority, and he was always an active and interested participant in whatever programs or interests his kids held.
Steady Eddie was a calm, hard-working family man, fundamentally selfless, and the bedrock upon which great communities are built: dedicated to his people, dedicated to his job, and dedicated to his country. He was -- quite simply -- a good person, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, his friends and former co-workers, and Central Ohio at large.
Ed Morgan is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Elaine Morgan and brother James Morgan. He is survived by his wife Tracy, daughters Sarah and Molly (Sam) Knutson, son Kevin, grandchildren Darcy and Lochlann Knutson, sister Cynthia (Alan) Broad, and brother Philip Morgan. Friends may call on Friday, September 30th at 9:30 a.m. in the Monsignor Kennedy Parish Center at St. Agatha Church, 1860 Northam Road, Upper Arlington, 43221, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Ed would have appreciated donations to OhioHealth's Delay the Disease program, 500 Thomas Lane, Columbus OH 43214, or the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, 3960 Brookham Dr, Grove City, OH 43123. Additionally, the Morgan Family would like to thank OhioHealth Hospice, especially Leah R.N., who treated Ed with dignity and kindness in his final year.
