Edward G. Myers, age 73, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2023 peacefully, at his home.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Elmo Christian Church with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Jim Giffin will be officiating. Interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo with Military Rites observed. Memorials may go to St. Elmo Christian Church, St. Elmo Fire Department or the donor's choice.
Edward was born on July 11, 1950 in the Doctor Louis Hospital, St Elmo, Illinois, the son of James "Curly" W. and Naomi R. (Willings) Myers. He was a lifelong resident of St. Elmo and was exceptionally proud of his community. Ed graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1968 and then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972. He later went to work for the Illinois State Police where he took pride in serving the citizens of Illinois until his retirement in 2003. Ed enjoyed volunteering his time with the St. Elmo Fire Department for 29 years; during that time, he spent many years as the Assistant Chief. He also spent 17 years on the St. Elmo Emergency Service Committee. Ed was a very respectful and respected man throughout his community, giving all credit of his character to his loving parents.
He is survived by his son, Jason Myers (girlfriend Angela Bishop) of Pekin, IL; brothers, Charles Myers (wife Mary) of St. Elmo and James Allen Myers (wife Mary) of Altamont; brother-in-law, Terry Heffel of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Dorinda Myers of St. Elmo; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James "Curly" and Naomi Myers; daughter, Jamie Myers; brother, Michael Myers; and sister, Judith Heffel.
