Daniel Myers

Daniel "Dan" Owen Myers (age 71) of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025. He was born on October 3rd,1953 in Columbus, Ohio to Orval and Elizabeth (Leitner) Myers. Dan attended Columbus North High School (Class of 1971) and then studied at Bluffton College. He later received his bachelor's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He worked at the railroad for his entire career as a freight car repairman at PennCentral, Conrail and Norfolk Southern and retired in 2006. Dan married his high school sweetheart, Catherine "Cathy" McKenzie in 1978, and had two daughters Jane and Katie. Dan was a devoted husband and father and worked to provide for his family and also made time to attend events and coach sports teams for his daughters. Dan was a parishioner of St. Michael Church in Worthington, Ohio and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved watching sports and rooted for his children and grandchildren on the sidelines, watched almost every game of the Cleveland Guardians, the Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He was an avid collector of stamps, coins and trains (and so much more!). He enjoyed baking sweet treats for friends and family, doing handy work around the house, fixing cars and building things. He also volunteered his time at St Michaels Church and School and volunteered as an income tax preparer for several years for AARP. Dan is survived by his wife Cathy, daughters Jane (Jeff) Pillivant and Katie Myers; granddaughters Ellie, Anna and Audrey Pillivant and grandson Jordan Warner; siblings James Myers, Mary Hartshorn and Joseph Myers, and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Orval and Elizabeth Myers, brother John Myers, and infant grandson Samuel Pillivant. Dan will be missed dearly by friends and family. Please join us in celebrating Dan's life. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 13th from 5-7pm at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday August 14th at St Michael Church at 10am, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, we would like to request that donations be made in Dan's memory to Honor Flight Columbus (honorflightcmh.org) or to the Ohio Railway Museum (Ohiorailwaymuseum.org).
