In the hush of dawn on the 4th of July 2025, the world became a little less witty, a little less resilient, and a little less dedicated as it bid farewell to the remarkable Charlie L Hancock Jr. Charlie, affectionately known by all as "Bro," was born on April 5, 1952, in Powhatan, WV. His life journey, spanning 73 years, led him from the McDowell County School System in West Virginia to find home in Columbus, Ohio, where he attended North High School and became a beloved figure in his community.
Charlie was a man that embodied resilience. He weathered life's storms with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. His dedication to his professional career lead him from Jeffrey Manufacturing Mining Company to his career as a Certified IPC Specialist at Dynalab EMS Columbus, Ohio. Prior to retirement, his tenacity and steadfastness earned him the 25 Years of Service award, a testament to his unyielding commitment As a member of the Flames Motorcycle Club for decades, Charlie relished the roar of his Harley. He was a master hunter and enjoyed the thrill of competition in spades and dominoes, and also the serene satisfaction of fishing and tending to his vegetable garden.
Charlie was a man of many roles - a dedicated professional, a witty companion, and a family man. He was the proud father of two daughters, Tiffiani Lynn Beavers and Thomasina Jatara Walker, and a cherished brother to Carolyn Howard, Diane (Jimmy) Keyes, Lena (Amadou) Ndiaye, Barbara and Donna Hancock. Charlie also embraced his role as a grandfather, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of his grandchildren – Ayrealle (Ke'Shea) Beavers Blair, Robert Love, Brandon Beavers, Bryce(Kayla) Beavers, Trae'Von Suarez, and Brian Beavers Jr. Charlie also held a special place in his heart for his nephew, Tyree Hancock. His departure has left a void that cannot be filled, but his memories are a treasure to be cherished. He now joins his parents Charlie Hancock Sr. and Virginia Hancock, his son Charlie L. Hancock III, and his brothers Herman, David, and Melvin Hancock in eternal rest.
Nelson Mandela once said, "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." Charlie was the embodiment of this truth. Though his physical presence is no longer among us, his spirit continues to inspire and guide us. We invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos of Charlie on his memorial page, celebrating the life of a man who was truly one of a kind.
A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Deb's Event Center, 5508 East Livingston Ave
Columbus, Ohio 43232 from 12:00pm-3:00pm.
