Edward Reid Sr., a longtime resident of Dorchester, passed away peacefully in his home on June 11, 2025. Edward was predeceased by his parents Ed and Alma Alexander Reid; his daughter, Patricia Reid; and his two older sisters, Nora Rolle of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and Pearl Neil of Boston, Ma.
Edward, affectionately known as Bubba, spent his formative years in Ft. Lauderdale and moved to Boston, MA after he graduated from Dillard High School in 1951. He went on to serve honorably in the United States Army, with deployments to Korea and Japan, and was honorably discharged in October 1960.
Edward dedicated 20 years of his career to Honeywell Bull, after which he continued his professional journey at National Grid (formerly Keyspan), retiring in 2004 at the age of 72. In addition to his work, Edward was widely recognized for his melodic singing voice. He was frequently invited to perform at local church events and often traveled when specially requested to sing at various functions. He served as a choir director for several years and was an active member of the men's group at St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he was a long standing member.
A talented cook, Edward was well known for his delicious meals- particularly his famous summertime ribs and bread pudding- which brought great joy to family gatherings. He cherished time spent with his loved ones, often seen playing with the children or rolling on the floor with them, even into his 80s and 90s. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering guidance left a lasting impression on everyone he touched and will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Among Edward's proudest accomplishments was his 72-year marriage to his beloved wife Cora Welch Reid. Together, they shared a deep and enduring partnership rooted in faith, family, and service. Outside of this devotion to his immediate family, Edward was passionate about community involvement, particularly in mentoring young men and fostering strong family values, education, and spiritual growth.
Edward is survived by his wife, Cora, children: Pamela Reid, Edward Reid Jr. and his wife Renee Reid, David Herndon, and Deryck Reid; dear grandfather of Niquel Ortega and her husband Abelardo Ortega Jr., Angel Willis, Ashlee Reid, Edward Zachary Reid, Alba Gilabert-Reid; Devoted great grandfather to Netaya Johnson and her husband Denzyl Johnson, twins Jason and Antonio Ortega, Avajah Willis, Abelardo Joel Ortega, Arielle Willis, Jaylen Savage, and Elijah Reid.
