Martha Jane Reid, affectionately known as "Jane," passed away peacefully in her home on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 3, 1940, in Pulaski, Virginia, Jane was a devoted Christian and a Norfolk native who touched countless lives through her faith, kindness, and joy.
Jane deeply loved her family and cherished every opportunity to bring them together-especially when the little ones were around. She loved to sing and was also known to do a little dance here and there. She had an adventurous heart, traveling to many parts of the world, including England, France, Germany, Australia, Panama, and Brazil.
Her heart for missions was one of her greatest callings. She shared the gospel in Panama, traveling there four times on yearly mission trips from 1996 to 1999, and later journeyed to Brazil in 1999 to continue her ministry work.
Throughout her career, Jane held various secretarial positions, sold life insurance, and also worked in retail.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Richard L. Reid, Jr., and her five children: Belinda Fowlkes (spouse, Ran), William T. Duke (spouse, Michelle), Debra Price, Richard Duke, Karen Groombridge (spouse, Hermann), and two stepchildren: Nancy Mangum (spouse, David) and Michael Reid, as well as 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Richmond and Susan Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Phelps, grandson Benjamin Duke, stepson Richard Reid III, and sister Brenda Tester.
Jane will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her generous heart that touched everyone she met.
A visitation will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel (3600 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452) on Saturday, November 1st from 5-8pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, November 2nd at 2pm, with interment to follow at London Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery (2460 Potters Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454).
