Edward "Eddie" Sarno, 65, passed away surrounded by his family on May 7, 2025. Born on August 14, 1959, in Somerville, Massachusetts, Eddie's life was a shining example of strength, resilience, and unwavering love.
To all who knew him, Eddie was the strongest man they had ever known-a man who faced adversity not just with courage, but with grace, determination, and an unshakable belief in the power of perseverance. His motto, "never give up," wasn't just something he said-it was how he lived. He overcame every obstacle life placed in his path, always emerging with compassion, humor, and his family at the center of it all.
Eddie shared a 42-year love story with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Joanne -affectionately known as "JoJo." Together, they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was a deeply devoted father to his daughter, Renee Deming, who was truly the center of his universe and his proudest accomplishment. Eddie's love and admiration extended to his son-in-law, Chris Deming, whom he embraced as a son. Nothing brought Eddie more joy than being "Papa" to his granddaughters, Meredith and Madelyn - his greatest treasures. He delighted in every moment spent with them, celebrating their joys and marveling at their growth.
Eddie was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Theresa Sarno. He is survived by his brothers, Arthur and wife Phoebe of California, and Jerry and wife Diane of Westford. His cousins Carol Fontana and Linda Scioli of Stoneham, who lovingly referred to him as their "little brother," also shared countless cherished memories with him. Eddie also leaves behind many adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.
After graduating college, Eddie pursued a successful career in real estate and development. He spent 43 years at Boyd/Smith Inc. as Principal/CFO. His sharp intellect and entrepreneurial drive were matched by his integrity and deep desire to help others succeed. Whether guiding someone to their first home or mentoring through a new business venture, Eddie brought heart, insight, and generosity to everything he did.
Beyond his professional life, Eddie found joy in simple pleasures. He was passionate about boating and restoring classic cars-hobbies he pursued with the same dedication and zest that defined his life. He found peace on the water and purpose under the hood, never afraid to roll up his sleeves and tackle a challenge.
Eddie also took great pride in his work with the HeartBrothers Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing resources and support to heart failure patients and their families during their medical journeys. His contributions to the foundation reflected his lifelong commitment to lifting others in their times of greatest need.
To know Eddie was to experience love in action. He was the steady presence you could always count on, the friend who listened deeply, the husband, father, and grandfather whose love shaped every life he touched. His legacy lives on in the kindness he showed, the laughter he sparked, and the strength he instilled in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A wake to honor Eddie's life will be held on Friday, May 30th, from 1:00–5:00 PM at Mackey Funeral Home 128 S. Main Rt 114 in Middleton followed by a Celebration of Life from 6:00–10:00 PM at Spinelli's Function Facility 10 Newbury St, Peabody. All who knew and loved Eddie are welcome to attend and help us honor the extraordinary man he was.
Though Eddie is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire-reminding us always to live with courage, give generously, and above all, never give up.

Joanne, My family joins me in extending our most sincere condolences at this most difficult time for you and your lovely family. It was my honor to have gotten to know Ed over the many years that he was such a great part of Boyd/Smith. Bill and I got to know what a compassionate person he was, with an intellect that knew no bounds. It just grew and grew. His strength, intellect, compassion and sense of perseverance will always come to mind when we think of him. I don't think I know another person with such determination and intent to "never give up." He was amazing in that respect and how he handled his medical issues cannot be overstated. He showed an unbelievable display of courage during the difficult times he faced.

He is in Heaven now enjoying the everlasting love and peace of our God. You and your family are in our prayers during this very difficult time.

Love, Polly

A great thanks to Ed for enabling the HeartBrothers Foundation to acquire our 2 units at Church Park Apartments. It was the dream of Pat Sullivan and Bob Romer, founders of the Heartbrothers, to provide much needed housing for LVAD and Heart Transplant patients in Boston.

Joanne, Rene and family-they say that you measure life in moments-I know that your cherished each moment with him, he is the most dertermined man that I ever met-in times or trial, I think about Eddie pushing himself, after illness, to return home and to the life and people that he loved-now it is time for him to rest. I know that you have peace in knowing how much he was loved and how much he loved all of you!
