Edith Irene Geyer, known affectionately as Irene to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on August 12, 2025, in Topsfield, MA surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 20, 1937, in the quaint town of Pigeon Cove, MA, Irene was the daughter of Everett Waldmore and Ellen Edith nee Johnson Jylkka.

Irene's early years were spent in the coastal charm of her birthplace, where she attended Pigeon Cove Elementary School and later Rockport High School where she formed many friendships that lasted a lifetime. It was there that she laid the foundation for a life defined by tenacity, warmth, and a passion for learning.

Throughout her professional life, Irene was the epitome of commitment and grace. She started as a Linesman Coordinator at New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Salem, MA, where she was known for her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to connect with people. Irene's voice became a familiar comfort as she represented Gloucester Engineering in Gloucester, MA, for many years. Her work ethic and warm demeanor left a lasting impression on her colleagues and those she served. Irene retired with a legacy of professional excellence and cherished memories from her career.

Irene's Finnish heritage was a source of pride and joy. She carried its traditions and values throughout her life.

A woman of many interests, Irene found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener, delighting in the vibrant colors and intricate beauty of lupines, a testament to her appreciation for the splendor of Maine. Irene's culinary skills were unmatched, as she loved to cook and bake wonderful creations for her family and friends. Her home was often filled with the delightful aromas of her latest recipes, a symbol of her love and care.

Irene leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Evelyn Corporon, and her brother Edwin Jylkka. She is survived by her brother Everett Jylkka, her sister Elaine Wyatt, and her loving sons Barry Geyer, Brian Geyer and his wife Eileen, and Todd Geyer and his wife Kim. Her family, a testament to the life she built and nurtured, will carry forward her spirit with love and pride.

Above all, Irene treasured her role as "Gramma" to her beloved grandchildren-Kirk, Alissa, Anika, and Cameron-who brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was also a cherished "Aunt" to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Irene took great pride in her family, nurturing them with a love that was both boundless and unconditional. Her memory will be forever treasured by all who knew her, and her warmth, generosity, and strength will live on through those she loved most.

In remembrance of Irene's remarkable life, it seems fitting to recall the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Irene's love, joy, and vibrant spirit have indeed become a part of us, and her memory will continue to inspire and comfort us in the days to come.
Irene's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, service, and unwavering spirit. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind. May her soul rest in peace, and may her story continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
