Edward Lee Teter, 86, of Eden, UT, formerly of Traverse City, MI, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, at his home in Eden. He was born on March 1, 1938, in Inkster, MI, to Lyman and Evelyn Teter and spent his childhood there.Ed pursued his studies at Northwestern University's Medical School Prosthetic-Orthotic Center, where he became an American Board-Certified Orthotist Prosthetist, dedicating his career to helping others regain mobility. His commitment to education and professional excellence led him to earn numerous additional certifications, including advanced credentials from New York University Medical School and the University of California, Los Angeles.In 1958, Ed married Sandra (Atwood) Thompson, and together they had two children, Mike and Sharon. Although they later went their separate ways, they remained dedicated parents and devoted grandparents to their granddaughter, Maggie. Ed founded Teter Orthotics and Prosthetics in 1975, and in the late 1980s, he began mentoring his son, Mike, to carry on the family business and legacy. By 1991, Mike was prepared to take over, and Ed confidently passed the reins to him. In 1998, Ed married his beloved wife, Susan Blenner, who remained by his side until his passing.As an amputee, Ed was a true inspiration to the community, leading by example through his active lifestyle and resilient spirit. Despite his own challenges, he embraced a love of adventure in every form, enjoying downhill and cross-country skiing, long-distance biking, rollerblading, hiking, golfing, boating, and waterskiing. Alongside his love for adventure, Ed enjoyed tackling home improvement projects, caddying for his son Mike, visiting his home in Cocoa Beach, FL, and giving back to his community.Ed played an integral role in founding the Northern Michigan Adaptive Sports and Recreation and Ogden Valley Utah Adaptive Sports programs. His guidance, advice, and dedication to education, recruitment, and fundraising helped these programs thrive and positively impact countless lives.Ed is survived by his wife, Susan Blenner; his daughter, Sharon Teter; his granddaughter, Maggie (Joel) Hutton; his brother, David (Cheryl) Teter; and his great-grandchildren, Clara, Teddy, and Marshall Hutton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mike Teter; his sister, Betty Karacher; and his brother, William Teter.To know Ed Teter was to know laughter, warmth, and generosity. His was a life of quiet strength and boundless kindness, touching countless lives through small gestures and big-hearted generosity. For Ed Teter, life was about savoring every moment and reminding us all to never take life too seriously through his humor and practical jokes. Ed's legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends. Ed's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Intermountain Health Hospice in Utah for their months of dedicated physical and emotional support. They will be forever grateful for the peace that hospice ultimately provided.
