Edward Tomson Obituary
Edward Dale Tomson, a dedicated servant to his country and family, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Newport News at the age of 90. Born on September 10, 1935, in Illinois, Edward led a life marked by commitment and service.
Edward retired as Sergeant First Class from the United States Army after 24 years of honorable service, exemplifying true dedication to his nation. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Mechanic Badge, Good Conduct Medal (Seventh Award), Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Following his military service, he continued to contribute to the community by working in maintenance for the Federal Government. His work ethic and dedication were evident in all aspects of his life.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mearl and Pearl Tomson. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 66 years, Hedwig Tomson; his sons, Winfried Rickard (Roxanne), Terry Rickard (Phyllis), and Curtis Rickard (Bonnie); his daughters, Renee R. Emery (Neal), Carleen M. Hickey (Chris), and Debbie Buvel (Dave). He was a proud grandfather to Jillian and Allison Hickey, Jason Rickard, Stephanie Hoffman, Shannon Polston, Brandon Downs, Dakota Emery, and David Buvel. Among those who mourn his passing are also his close friends, James and Irmgard Rickard, Barbara Thombley, and Michelle Orphanidys (George) and their son George Jr.
Edward's life will be celebrated with a visitation on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am, both held at Denbigh Chapel.
Edward Dale Tomson will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community. His legacy will live on through those who loved him and the countless lives he touched.
