Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial on Aug. 23, 2024.
Edwin Andrew Bobak, 97, of Newington, formerly of Rocky Hill and Hartford, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, August 18, 2024. For more than 60 years, he was the beloved husband of Teresa "Terry" (DeMonte) Bobak, who predeceased him in 2015.
Growing up during The Great Depression as a child of immigrant parents, Ed was raised in an environment that emphasized faith in God, devotion to family, a strong work ethic and service to others, traits that remained with him his entire life.
Born in Springfield, MA to the late Andrew and Katherine (Ligarski) Bobak, Ed graduated from Classical High School and American International College. He served in the U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean Conflict, completing his service as a Lieutenant, j.g.
Drawing on his experience as a Naval Supply Officer, in 1953 Ed began his career at Kaman Aircraft in the Purchasing Dept. In 1963, he accepted a position as a Raw Materials Buyer at Hamilton Standard. He retired from Hamilton in 1988 as a Subcontract Administrator in the Space and Sea Division. Throughout his career, he was known for his amiability and integrity.
Ed was an active member of the former Christ Methodist Church in Hartford, and since 1975, Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church, where he served in many capacities, both behind the scenes and up front, including Usher, Missions Board/Chair and Trustee/Chair.
He enjoyed home improvement projects, woodworking, refinishing furniture, wallpapering, gardening, bicycling and walking for exercise. He and Terry also enjoyed traveling. Favorite places were Bermuda, Great Britain, and Maine where they returned often. Ed was known for having shiny shoes, a classic wardrobe, fedora hats, immaculate car, manicured lawn, negotiating a good deal, a powerful sweet tooth, and having a smile and hello for everyone.
Most of all, Ed was a loving and faithful son, brother and husband; devoted father, supportive uncle, helpful neighbor and trusted friend. His steady, stable and patient influence will be deeply missed by his daughter, Lisa, of Wethersfield; niece Diane DeMonte of Tucson, AZ; nephew, Gary Garofolo and his wife, Pat, of Yorktown, IN. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his beloved sister, Gladys Zielinski; special cousins, Eleanor Ostafin and Frieda Jardim; nephew, Guy Garofolo; and friends, Tom Bellone, Jim Harrington, Roy Skaanning and Stanley Tabara.
Ed's family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Cedar Mountain Commons where he made his home for the past 11 years. Also, to the exceptional Hospice Team at Hartford Healthcare at Home, as well as Daniel and Yaw who compassionately cared for him in his final days.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 (what would have been his 98th birthday) at Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church (WEFC), 511 Maple St., Wethersfield. Burial was private in West Suffield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial gift may do so to the WEFC Missions Fund, the Copernicus Endowment for Polish Studies at the University of Michigan or to a
charity of the donor's choice.
